After seeing the video of our Territorial Ladies Band on a 2km march with the International Staff Songsters in Navaisaha without lyres (holders) for their music, Bellshill Band from Scotland, UK Territory have come to the rescue. Under the leadership of Bandmaster Yvonne Ferguson, Bellshill Band have provided 40 brand new lyres. Bandmaster Monica Sakha receives the lyres from our Territorial Commander, Commissioner Nyagah and Asst. Music Director, Victor Kinyuah

B/M Yvonne received the following message from Richard Bradbury a few days ago:

Hi Yvonne, just a couple of pictures of the lyres being handed over to Monica, the leader of the Territorial Ladies Band by the TC. The Territorial Bandmaster and Asst. Territorial Music Director, Kinyuah JM Victor is also in the photos. Thank you so much - I know this will really help the Band. Richard. — with Monica Sakha.

17th - Alex Burrows promoted to glory
Alex Burrows

Bandsman Alex Burrow was promoted to glory on Wednesday 17th January. A product of Parkhead Citadel, Alex was a Bandsman for over 70 years - he was a very fine cornet player and percussionist, as well as possessing an excellent bass voice.

At various times, Alex served as Young People's Band Leader, Male Voice Party Leader and Bandmaster at his home corps before spending 10 years soldiering at Clydebank  Citadel.

Alex, with his wife Mary, transferred to Bellshill in the early 2000s where Alex continued his service as Bandsman and vocal soloist - he earned the nickname "Fred" during the Band's 2003 tour and this affectionate name remained with him from then on.

Alex was a faithful soldier and Bandsman, a great encourager of all around him and helper with the YP Band, and he will be greatly missed.

The thoughts of the Band are with Mary and the family.

A service of thanksgiving will be held at Bellshill Salvation Army hall at 10.30am on Saturday 3rd February followed by the committal at Daldowie Crematorium at 12pm.
