 3rd - Music for a summer's evening

Music for a summer's evening

On a week of where we have experienced some beautifl summer weather, it was great night for us to celebrate our annual Music for Summer's Evening concert. This year's special guest for the evening was Marjory Watson (vocal), accompanied on the piano by Stuart Watson.

With the hall almost full the band got the programme of to a great start with a new piece to our repertoire, On We March followed by the The Deep, Deep Love of Jesus. We were then treated to the items from Marjory, as she sang Get Happy with the band accompanying her, followed by Wouldn't It Be Loverly, I Could Hav Danced All Night, and then A Change In Me.

Alex Ramsay (principle cornet) played the lovely cornet solo My Love IS Like a Red, Red Rose, and this was followed by the band playing another new piece called Salsalvation.

Marjory then provided 3 more songs - Journey To The Past, and then the highlights of the programme, You Know Better Than I followed by I'm In His Hands.

Next on the programme was the cornet trio The Veterans played by three three of the younger members of the band, Joshua Harvey, Christopher Keane and Robert Butters.

After a congregational song where a collection was taken in aid of the corps building fund raising over £400, the band played Swingtime Religion. This was followed by a bible reading and thought from Band Sergeant David Kendall and then the band playing Prelude on "Lavenham".

Marjory ended her contribution to the night's programme with three more songs - There Is A Saviour, I'm Finding and Unexpected Song (which the band accompanied). The band closed the night with another piece new to our repertoire, Celebration of Contemporary Gospel Song.

We enjoyed a great evening of music and praise, and thank Marjory Watson for her varied and thoughtful contributions to the programme.
