Music for Summer

 5th - Music for a Summer's Evening

Music for a Summer's Evening

The day started wet and miserable, but by the timeearly evening, it was a bright sunny summer's evening, making it a great night for the band's annual Music for a Summer's Evening concert.

A good crowd gathered in our hall, to hear the band's programme which included some music which was new to the band's repertoire.

The programme started with one of these new pieces, The Southern Cross and this was immediately followed by the horn solo You Love Me, which was presented by Deputy Bandmaster Melvyn Shanks.

The next item by the band was another new one, Call of the Gospel. This was followed by Brian Allan playing the piano solo Somewhere Out There, and then we were treated to a wonderful rendition of the cornet solo Clear Skies by Alex Ramsay.

The band then played The Name before the ladies voices sang In This Very Room, and then the euphonium solo The Better World was played excellently by YPBL Chris Shanks.

After the band played The Name, it was time for the trombone section to feature in the programme, as they played the beautiful From That Sacred Hill. We then entered a time of reflection led by Band Sergeant David Kendall which was concluded with the band playing the song arrangement Now I Belong To Jesus.

The band then brought the programme to a great conclusion as they played Fusion, followed by the benediction The Prayer.

We thank everyone who came along to hear the band, and hope they not only enjoyed the music, but were blessed and challenged by our message.

 13th - Kilbirnie Salvation Army 123rd Anniversary

The band travelled to Kilbirnie to provide a musical festival to celebrate Kilbirnie Salvation Army's 123rd anniversary.

There were several highlights in the programme provided by the band and this included several soloists: Lynn Shanks played the flugel horn solo Through It All; Alex Ramsay playing the cornet solo Clear Skies; and Chris Shanks played the euphonium solo The Better World.

Other highlights of the programme were the bands performance of Call of the Gospel and the final piece of the night, Celebration, during which retired Band Sergeant Sam Richie carried the band's flag to the front of the hall in celebration.

The programme also featured a piano duet by Brian Allan and Amy McMillan and the ladies voices sang In This Very Room.

It was great to have the support of Kilbirnie Songsters during the festival. So thank them for their two contributions to the meeting: I've Been Changed and He Sought Me.

Other items by the band tonight included The Southern Cross, The Name,Servant of God, Swingtime Religion, Now I Belong To Jesus and Fusion.

We thank everyone who came along to Kilbirnie to support both the band and Kilbirnie corps, and hope you were blessed and challenged by our ministry.
